Steve Jobs introduced the new iPhone 4 to the world at the just concluded developers conference in San Fransisco. Wearing his trademark turtleneck and denims, Jobs gave a polished presentation though with a couple of hiccups. So here’s whats new to the iPhone in brief :
The new iPhone comes with a front facing camera that can be potentially used for video conferencing. The camera has also been upgraded to 5 megapixel with better quality, flash, capable of HD video recording and point to shoot feature- something called Retina Display(wtvr that means) .
Steve Jobs showcased the videoconferencing feature over WiFi. Its expected to come to 3g networks soon. The new device has a real gyroscope in addition to the accelerometer that is standard now in most smart phones. The combination gives you 6-axis motion sensing. Developers can use a new CoreMotion API for extremely precise movements.
The iPhone OS 4 edition has been launched and will ship on 21 June. The updated version of OS will bring application like iBooks for iPad to the iPhone. Its expected to be faster and would support multiple programs at the same instant (multitasking). The OS has been renamed as iOS4 generating speculation that it could be used on other platforms like iTV etc. It will also aim to link up all apple devices seamlessly.
The other big news from the conference was the addition of Bing as a search provider in addition to Google. This is the first step in the battle between Apple and Google over control of the smartphone market and marks a growing dissent b/w the 2 technological giants.
If you are an owner of iPhone 3g like me then there’s not much to look forward to.
PS: I wont even venture a guess to when (if) it comes to India.
